Capturing a party environment is challenging due to the low-light and fast moving subjects, but a fun challenge to take on. For me capturing this party environment is a fun way to advance my skill set, I have primarily shot landscape or architecture; in those two settings you can take all day to setup and wait for the perfect light, angle, and use a tripod.
